Child Sponsorship Story

Child Sponsorship StoryMuch like baby Moses, three-month-old Sara* was drawn from the water into loving arms. Apparently, she and her mother had been traveling back from the island where the family grew their crops when her mother mysteriously drowned in the waters of Lake Kivu. Two Catholic nuns, seeing the tiny infant floating on the water, went to investigate. They soon realized the baby was miraculously still alive. God’s loving hands had kept Sara afloat until help arrived. This was the first miracle in Sara’s life.

With civil war and ethnic cleansing all around them, many families in the Congo struggle daily to survive. Everyday living is not taken for granted. A heartbreaking bi-product of this struggle is how quickly a child can lose all that they hold dear. Sometimes the only way a parent can save their children from starvation is to give them to others to raise. Little Sara was one of those children.

After her mother’s death she stayed with the two nuns who rescued her. Sometime later, she was reunited with family members where she lived for several years. The family’s way of life changed and this time Sara’s health started to decline. Thus, the family took an ill Sara to the ICC receiving center in the city of Goma.

Child Sponsorship StoryUnder the loving care of ICC’s staff, Sara’s health improved daily. Through God’s tender care she received her second miracle, life within the care of the ICC family. Again, like Baby Moses God gave Sara a new safe haven so she can shape her life for His good.

Currently, Sara is twelve years old. She is hard working, polite, helpful and obedient. At times, she is the one who cares for the clothes of her brothers and sisters. She also enjoys jumping rope and playing Konge. She has an ambition of being the mother of a large family some day.

Today, won’t you consider sponsoring Sara or one of the many other children like her who need a caring sponsor? Help us make their dreams come true!
