Following Our Father – Step by Step
Dahiana’s Story, Las Palmas Children’s Village

What a privilege it is for a child to be supported by healthy and loving parents. That kind of care should be an expectation of life. Yet, as you — with a heart for orphaned and abandoned children — know, that is not always the case.

Many children are faced with seemingly endless barriers. They lack the basic support and love needed to thrive. Thankfully, people like you care enough to make a difference. Your support transforms lives! Just take a look at the story of Dahiana Eusebio from the Dominican Republic.

At thirteen years old, setbacks defined Dahiana’s life trajectory. With an ailing mother and an absent father, she did not receive adequate care.

At her hometown, a church leader had taken an interest in supporting Dahiana and her three sisters. He taught them about Jesus. So, although she lacked a father’s protection, she trusted in her Heavenly Father’s protection.

Dahiana arrived at Las Palmas Children’s Village on August 21, 2016. She placed in 5th grade, two years behind the other 13-year-old children. Yet, she kept determination and hope in her heart.
Thanks to the support of a house family, which you helped to provide, Dahiana began to improve in studies. She even requested the opportunity to take on double the classload, hoping to “catch up” with other students her age.

“When she expressed her immense desire to take two courses in one year, the principal gave some advice,” said Samilin Wilimas, Las Palmas Director. “It is better to do things step by step. Time would pass, and she would achieve all her dreams and ideals with God’s help. It was better not to rush, because God has everything under His absolute control.”

In addition, educational laws no longer allowed students to take two courses in one year. Dahiana came to understand that, with God’s help, she would achieve her goals in His time.

“Dahiana is a determined and hard-working young woman,” said Samilin. “Always willing to do things the right way.”

Now, Dahiana studies to become a nurse at Universidad Adventista Dominicana.

“I feel very grateful to God for this opportunity,” said Dahiana. “And above all, I feel happy to be part of this family… Everyone who wants to take advantage of this opportunity can do so if they set their mind to it. And to my sponsors, God will reward you for all the good you have done for me and for all those who are in need of this great opportunity. Thank you!”

You Can Make a Difference

Dahiana arrived at Las Palmas Children’s Village at age thirteen, as pictured left. Despite the difficulties she faced at such a young age, Dahiana came to Las Palmas with an eagerness to learn. Many orphaned and abandoned children share this eagerness, but lack the support needed to succeed in life. You can help to provide the support that a child needs! Your gift, today, can change a life – for good. Thank you for making a difference!
