Rescued from the Rushes
On the night of Christmas Eve, 2018, rain poured heavily upon a banana plantation on Idjwi Island in the Congo. Despite the storm, a quiet filled the air, as a baby boy lay abandoned among the bananas. He could not even cry from weakness.
By God’s guiding hand, fishermen discovered the child at 5:30 a.m. They rushed to save the baby as he shook with tremors from the cold, laboring to breathe. It’s a miracle that he did not die!
The fishermen rushed to warn the village chief. They had to find out who had abandoned this child! The village chief immediately ordered that the child be taken to the Bugarula Idjwi Baptist Hospital for urgent care. Meanwhile, the local radio station sent out a broadcast to assist in the search for whoever abandoned the child, and to alert any interested family of the baby’s whereabouts.
Sadly, no one came forward.
A Loving Home
That is when Patmos Children’s Village stepped in to welcome the “banana baby” home. They named him Samuel.
With a shadowed past, he may be the youngest to ever arrive at Patmos. Yet, thanks to a loving home, which you help to provide, the boy is now thriving.
Today, Samuel is a joyful six-year-old, at the top of his class. He loves to eat cookies, play soccer, and sing in the children’s choir. Every Sabbath, he learns about Jesus. Samuel helps around the house, too. He is growing into a healthy, intelligent, and courteous boy.
Samuel’s life is forever changed because of caring people, just like you, who choose to support orphaned and abandoned children. He has many years of joy to look forward to in the future.
